And Where You Can Find My Latest Writing Work

I have a mission. I don't want anyone else to experience the hell that healthcare put my family through. We were fully unprepared. We had complete trust in our doctors. We never suspected that, despite their best efforts to help us, they would harm us, instead, over and over and over again.

My goal is to teach as many people as possible how to protect themselves against the dangers of American healthcare. That's why I write. That's why I speak to large groups of physicians at medical conferences, and to gatherings of patients who want to know more. And that's why I continue to consult for creators of medical research and quality improvement, especially those focused on diagnostic quality and patient safety. I'm a champion for Patients for Patient Safety US (PFPS-US) and on the Steering Committee for Patient-Partnered Diagnostic Center of Excellence. Check them both out if you care about improving American healthcare and want to learn more. Patients, researchers and doctors are all welcome.

Although I've co-authored several medical journal articles for research I helped co-design, I'm proud to be lead author on an AHRQ Issue Brief that I hope the current administration doesn't delete because it includes a section on health equity (here's the definition). I'm very committed to improving health equity because it saves lives. As of today, The Patient’s Role in Diagnostic Safety and Excellence still exists on the US government's website.

This website is a wonderful place to store my earlier work. I've written for many outlets covering a wide range of topics and need a portfolio of my work to share. But the company that hosts this website charges a great deal every time I wish to share updates.

So, in late 2023, I moved my new work and all my subscribers to Substack. There I created a new column to replace Dx IQ which disappeared without notice when the nonprofit Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM) went bankrupt. All the Dx IQ articles still exist here on this website. Grateful I chose to download them before SIDM went kaput.

My Substack is called Patient No More and all subscriptions are free. I hope I never have to charge but I appreciate all the subscribers who have pledged to support me.

In January 2025, I launched a new serialized book on Patient No More. It's called A GUIDE TO SURVIVING AMERICAN HEALTHCARE. Here's the announcement I made. Since then, I have published two chapters a month with the goal of completing the book by the end of 2025.

I've also completed a memoir about my son's 15 year diagnostic odyssey that nearly killed him in 10th grade. Working title is CATCH ME WHEN I STUMBLE. It will break your heart and lift you back up again. He's thriving in life, love and work and approves this message. I'm seeking a new agent. Open to introductions.

Come visit me at Patient No More. Or send me a message here on my Contact page.
